India Philanthropy Alliance (IPA)

  • A coalition of nonprofit, philanthropic and charitable organizations that mobilize people and funding for poverty reduction programs in India. Several JHII Advisory Board Members are members of IPA and have organized 14 key partners that work in India for direct response to COVID; these include Pratham, WISH, Project ECHO, and AIF.

Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS)

  • The IRCS is a voluntary humanitarian organization having a network of over 1100 branches throughout India, providing relief in times of disasters/emergencies and promoting the health and care of vulnerable people and communities. IRCS has scaled up preparedness to tackle the COVID pandemic by initiating a myriad of activities including the training and mobilization of volunteers; distributing essential commodities to the needy and sick; and supporting state governments in strengthening the fight against COVID-19 by conducting community surveillance.

Liver Foundation, West Bengal

Accepts donations online from both US and India

  • To save lives when oxygen tanks are not readily available, funding is needed for a 100-strong fleet of oxygen concentrator equipped ambulances in the Kolkata/Howrah areas of West Bengal. The COVID Care Network helpline will triage calls and direct government-supported ambulances, while the Liver Foundation, West Bengal will coordinate. 100 ambulances will reach ~9,000 people during the peak period of May.  Funding will support the purchasing of 72-100 oxygen concentrators.

Pratit International

(Kolkata)

  • Founded by a faculty member at the JHU School of Medicine, Pratit has been working in the slums of Kolkata to provide comprehensive medical services to vulnerable patients. With a trained and robust corps of Physicians and Health Workers, donations to Pratit will be used to leverage and mobilize COVID-19 Outpatient Monitoring Education & Treatment (Operation COMET) to reduce death due to COVID-19 with treatment at home; decongest overwhelmed hospitals; deliver vaccines door to door; and scale services to a state and national level.

  • Vatsalya’s mission is to achieve lasting improvement and consistent endeavor towards the upliftment of behavioral practice in health & gender, through a process that unites people across culture and adds meaning and value to their lives. A community group working in and around Lucknow, they have recently scaled up their response to COVID in rural areas and are currently supporting two efforts: (1) working with local authorities in slums in Lucknow to help infected individuals isolate more effectively, and (2) working with existing community members in adjoining rural districts to support home care and treatment.
