Showcasing Hopkins’ Impact in India
The Poster Presentation showcased faculty-led projects from Johns Hopkins University, highlighting research excellence and collaborative innovation across domains.
During President Ronald Daniels’ visit to India, GKII organized a poster presentation to spotlight Johns Hopkins University’s contributions to addressing challenges in India. The event highlighted 30+ impactful projects across public health, infectious diseases, governance, climate change, and more. These initiatives, led by faculty members from across seven prominent schools of Johns Hopkins, showcased how innovative research and cross-disciplinary efforts have driven real-world impact, reflecting the university’s commitment to advancing solutions for pressing global issues.
The event also featured lightning presentations by distinguished experts:
- Mathu Santhosam, Director Emeritus, Center for Indigenous Health, Johns Hopkins University: Saving Lives in Early Childhood.
- Somesh Kumar, Senior Director at Jhpiego and Associate Faculty, Johns Hopkins University: Strengthening Health Systems in India.
- Uttara Bharath Kumar, Senior Program Officer, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, and Arushi Bhatnagar, Senior Economist, World Bank: Comprehensive SBC Strategy for Tamil Nadu’s NCD-Free Initiative (2021–2024).
- Vidya Mave, Co-Director, Johns Hopkins Center for Infectious Diseases in India: Overview of the Center for Infectious Diseases in India.
The presentations emphasized interdisciplinary efforts spanning public health, nursing, engineering, and education, which underpin the shared values of democracy and partnership. Insights were shared on India’s health advancements, such as maternal mortality reductions and under-five mortality declines, achieved through strategic investments in healthcare, education, and immunization. Notable initiatives like the Uttar Pradesh Health System Strengthening Support Project and the India Primary Healthcare Support Initiative showcased JHU’s role in technical and advisory capacities, enhancing resource management and data-driven decision-making.
These projects highlight how JHU’s expertise aligns with India’s potential to address health and development goals while inspiring future collaborations.
