2024 Cohort of GKII Student Travel Grants Announced
We are excited to announce Katherine Lim, Hrishikesh Sathamoorthy, Sahana Shekhar, Divya Rao, Jaelyn Taylor, and Autumn Tangney as the 2024 awardees of GKII’s Girish and Himangi Rishi Student Travel Grant supporting field placement projects with the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health.
The Girish and Himangi Rishi Student Travel Grant is designed to support student travel to India, leveraging the strengths of existing Johns Hopkins University research programs. Mr. Rishi, an alumnus of the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), is an accomplished tech executive, now CEO of the industrial software company Cognite. He and his wife, Himangi Rishi, established the fellowships with GKII to connect their passion for business and technology with the challenges of urban hunger, sustainable diets, and health inequity.

Project: India Primary Health Care Support Initiative (IPSI)“This experience will develop cultural competence and interpersonal skills through engagement with diverse communities, enhancing adaptability and global awareness. It also provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world contexts, deepening understanding of international health systems.”
Hrishikesh Sathamoorthy
Project: Positive Running Program“I intend to explore the use of a fundamental aspect of life – physical activity – in the prognosis of HIV among young adults and adolescents. I look forward to expand my social research skills, improve my data analysis skills, and gain confidence from living independently.”
Sahana Shekhar
Project: Karnataka Health Promotion Trust “I am interested in observing how multi-sector public and private partnerships are built to achieve shared goals that improve health outcomes for communities. I’m excited to learn from, and contribute to, the betterment of maternal and neonatal health in the city that I grew up in, where I recognized my passion for maternal and reproductive health.”
Divya Rao
Project: Zero TB Kids & Family“I hope that my research and field experience abroad will serve as a comprehensive reflection and compilation of my academic and personal journey in public health.”
JaeLynn Taylor
Project: Supporting Equitable Wellness through Advanced Research and Training in Health (SEWARTH)“Through this project, I will help ramp up the public health and community engagement efforts of the All-India Institutes for Medical Sciences and assist in developing tools to sustain this work.”
Autumn Tangney
Project: I’mPossible Fellowship“I hope to consider resilience, mental health, and medical adherence to medications associated with HIV such as pre-exposure prophylaxis and antiretroviral therapy. My data collection and analysis will be utilized to improve the peer mentorship program in terms of its sustainability and impact.”
