Bangalore Tech Summit

The Bangalore Tech Summit featured impactful contributions from Johns Hopkins University, emphasizing the intersection of technology, innovation, and academia in addressing global challenges.

Ed Schlesinger, Dean of the Whiting School of Engineering, delivered a keynote on “Technovations Disrupting Various Industry Sectors,” highlighting AI and data science’s transformative role in solving societal issues like public health, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability. He introduced JHU’s Data Science and AI Institute, underscoring the university’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge research.

Alexander Triantis, Dean of Carey Business School, discussed the critical role academia plays in fostering research, education, and technology for sustainable U.S.-India partnerships.

 

Dr. Ritu Agarwal participated in the panel discussion on “Deepening U.S.-India Tech Cooperation”. This panel discussed AI’s growing applications across enterprise and consumer sectors, explored academic and policy frameworks to promote sustainable AI innovation and emphasized academic spin-offs and their role in fostering digital ecosystem growth in India.

Dr. Sridevi Sarma, explored AI innovation, workforce readiness, and academic-industry collaboration, reinforcing the summit’s focus on deepening U.S.-India tech cooperation.

IISc Bangalore

The session at IISc Bangalore showcased collaborative opportunities between JHU and IISc, with an emphasis on leveraging expertise to address critical challenges in health and technology. Raj Gupta, Founder of the Gupta-Klinsky India Institute, opened the event by emphasizing the significance of U.S.-India partnerships. Presentations by JHU faculty members covered diverse topics, including data-driven public health interventions by Dr. Judd Walson, bioinformatics in addressing COPD by Dr. Nadia Hansel, and advancing precision medicine in kidney disease by Dr. Chirag Parikh. Dr. Amita Gupta shared insights on leveraging big data for infectious disease clinical trials, while Dr. Anita Shet and Dr. Shalini Singh highlighted the intersection of public health and AI. These discussions underscored the potential for collaborative research to drive innovation and impact across disciplines.

Visit to Karunashraya

Dr. Avani Prabhakar, Associate Professor of Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Care at Johns Hopkins Hopsital visited the Bangalore Hospice Trust: Karunashraya. This is a joint project of the ​Indian Cancer Society (Karnataka Chapter) and ​Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar​, for providing free palliative care to advanced-stage cancer patients who are beyond cure. The visit was to gain insights for the Palliative Care collaboration with Ajit Isaac Foundation.
