Mumbai Roundtable: Philanthropy’s Role in Shaping India’s Path to 2047

The roundtable, hosted by GivingPi, Johns Hopkins University, and ACT Grants at Taj Lands’ End, Mumbai, brought together leading philanthropists to reimagine the role of philanthropy in driving India’s development as it approaches its centenary in 2047. Focused on innovation, disruption, and scalability, the event explored how philanthropy can act as a catalyst for transformative change by leveraging technology, data, and strategic partnerships. Discussions highlighted the need for bold approaches in addressing critical challenges in health, education, and sustainability, emphasizing the potential of collective action and cross-sector collaborations.

A central theme that resonated deeply was Suhel Binadi’s (Lead, Digital & AI, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) compelling perspective on collective leverage. He highlighted that our true strength emerges when we combine our resources, expertise, and influence to amplify impact. The attendees underscored the importance of this collective approach, emphasizing how funders, changemakers, practitioners, and innovators can harness it to steer innovation toward greater equity and inclusion.

Mr. Sunil and Mrs. Anubhuti Sanghai, proud parents of Aarna Sanghai, a student of Biomedical Engineering at the Whiting School of Engineering, Class of 2027, graciously hosted a memorable dinner on November 23rd at their residence in Mumbai. The event brought together a distinguished group of leaders from industry, politics, healthcare, and academia.
